3hatte die dritte Prytanie inne, für die Zoïlos S.d. Diphi-
4los aus dem Demos AlopekeXII Sekretär war; im Metageitnion
5am neunundzwanzigsten, dem siebenund-
6zwanzigsten (Tag) der Prytanie; Volksversammlung in dem
7Theater; von den Vorsitzenden leitete die Abstimmung Spoudias S.d. Mem-
8non aus dem Demos Aphidna und seine Mitvorsitzenden.
9Beschluss von Rat und Volk;
10Thoukritos S.d. Alkimachos aus dem Demos Myrrhinous stellte den Antrag:
11Da Prytanis wohlwollend ist gegenüber dem Volk und oft
12auch schon die Generäle seine früher getätigte
13Demonstration (dieses Wohlwollens) aufgezeigt haben, und da er,
14von dem Volk gebeten, sich selbst bereitwillig
15eingebracht hat für den gemeinsamen Nutzen der Stadt und bei seinem
16Aufenthalt in der Fremde - - - weder Mühe
17noch irgendeine Gefahr höher veranschlagt hat
18und auf kein Vermögen und keinen Aufwand Rücksicht nahm,
19und angekommen bei - - -, er Vortrag
20hielt über das gemeinsam Nützliche mit der Kraft seiner
21Rede und gleichsam wie für seine eigene Heimatstadt allen
22Eifer zeigte, und er dem Volk hierüber Nachricht gab
23und es dabei zu keiner Zeit fehlen ließ an Bereitwilligkeit
24und keinen Gebrauch darin, was dem Volk gebührt,
25unterließ; – Damit nun auch das Volk zu jedem
26Zeitpunkt öffentlich sich derer erinnert, die eifrig
27ihm Dienste erwiesen haben, zu Glück
28und Heil!, wolle beschließen der Rat: dass die erlosten
29Vorsitzenden für die kommende Volksversammlung hierüber
30verhandeln lassen und die Beschlussvorlage des
31Rates in die Volksversammlung einbringen, wonach der Rat es für gut befindet,
32dass man belobige Prytanis S.d. Astyleides aus Karystos
33und ihn bekränze mit goldenem Kranz gemäß
34dem Gesetz wegen seines Wohlwollens und seines Ehrgeizes, den
35er stets hegt für den Rat und das Volk
36der Athener, und diesen Kranz verkündige
37an den Dionysien in der Stadt bei der Tragödien-
38Uraufführung und an den Panathenäen bei dem Sportwettkampf;
39dass für die Anfertigung des Kranzes und die Verkündigung
40Sorge tragen die Generäle
41und der Schatzmeister der Militärkasse; dass er,
42wenn er diese Gesinnung bewahrt, noch andere Auszeichnung
43finden wird bei dem Rat und dem Volk, deren er für würdig erachtet wird;
44dass man ihn auch zum Bankett in das Prytaneion lade
45für morgen; dass diesen Beschluss der Sekretär,
46der während der Prytanie amtiert, aufzeichne auf
47eine steinerne Stele und aufstelle auf der Agora; dass die
48entstandenen Kosten für die Weihung und die
49Aufzeichnung auf die Stele der Schatzmeister
50der Militärkasse begleiche.

5On the twenty-ninth of Metageitnion, the twenty-
6seventh of the prytany. Assembly in the theatre.
7Of the presiding committee Spoudias
8son of Memnon of Aphidna was putting to the vote, and his fellow presiding committee members.
9The Council and the People decided.
10Thoukritos son of Alkimachos of Myrrhinous proposed:
11since Prytanis is well disposed towards the People, and the
12generals have referred many times to
13the report which he made also previously,
14at the behest of the People, and dedicating himself
15unhesitatingly to the collective needs of the city,
16went abroad [[- - - ]] taking no
17account of any toil or danger
18that might arise, and having no regard to any expense,
19and being present [[- - - ]] and having discoursed
20freely for the sake of the common good,
21as one exerting himself to the full for the sake of
22his own fatherland, reported to the People about
23these things, neglecting no opportunity for zeal,
24and omitting nothing that was proper to the
25People's need; so, therefore, that the People
26may be seen at every opportunity to have been mindful of those who
27exert themselves to meet its needs, for good fortune,
28the Council shall decide, that the presiding committee allotted
29for the forthcoming Assembly shall place
30these matters on the agenda, and submit the opinion of the
31Council to the People, that it seems good to the Council,
32to praise Prytanis son of Astyleides of Karystos
33and crown him with a gold crown according
34to the law for the good will and love of honour which
35he continues to show towards the Athenian Council and
36People, and to announce this crown
37at the City Dionysia in the tragedies at the
38new competition and at the Panathenaia at the gymnastics;
39and the generals and the treasurer of the military
40fund shall take care of the making of
41the crown and its announcement; and, on
42maintaining his preference, he may obtain other benefits
43from the People, whatever he may be deemed to be worthy of;
44and to invite him to dinner at the city hall
45tomorrow; and the prytany secretary shall inscribe this
46decree on a stone stele
47and stand it in the agora; and the treasurer
48of the military fund shall allocate
49the expenditure accruing for the setting up and inscribing
50of the stele.
